I'm about to arrive in Venice and  suddenly everything disappears to reveal an endless lagoon. I'm realizing that I'm coming to a place unlike any other.Â
Reached Piazzale Roma, the entry point to the city, I see something that I have never seen before. No avenues, no cars, no buses. Canals, vaporettos, hundreds of people crowding the streets on the side of the canals.
Left our bags in the small apartment in a very narrow street, we begin to wander casually among the beautiful alleys webbing without any logic, not easily understandable at least, occasionally interrupted by some lovely square or an enchanting canal.
One of these delightful squares is the one setting in the middle of the Jewish quarter, certainly one of the most fascinating parts of the city.Â
The next day we couldn't resist getting on a vaporetto to move around the city.
The ticket price is very high but it's worth it. Crossing the city by boat is truly a unique experience that makes me more and more excited while the sequence of magnificent buildings overlooking the canal flows in front of my eyes. Suddenly on the left I can see the unmistakable silhouette of a bell tower, the boat is approaching San Marco it's time for preparing to get off.
It rains more and more and, despite this, the charm of the city remains untouched indeed, I can safely say, it increases.Â
After many hours of steady moving we feel the need to stop for a moment to have a drink, to talk and comment on the emotions of the day, a spritz, sitting at a table of a small cozy bar, is just what we are looking for.
It's time to move back to our apartment and we decide to avoid the main streets, full of shops and tourists, and to cut through the side streets.
The passages between one street and another often convey a charming atmosphere, they are called "sotoporteghi" a kind of small tunnels magically connecting streets and sometimes even a neighborhood to another.
The day is coming to an end but suddenly, while we were enjoying our well-deserved rest on the sofa, the sound of sirens indicating the arrival of high tide echoes in the air. In a moment we get ready and move out towards St. Mark's square, I can't even consider to leave Venice without seeing the high tide. Luckily the water level is not very high and we can enjoy the scenery without problems. A truly magical moment that I don't think I'll ever forget.
